Roanoke, VA (May 11, 2018) — To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, we asked you, our guests, to nominate educators who have made an impact on you or our local community. Today, we announce our winner at our Roanoke location. Congratulations to Myra Wasson of Fallon Park Elementary, who was chosen as an Outstanding Educator in her community.
"[Myra Wasson] is not only kind and compassionate with her students and colleagues but also sets high standards for them and works tirelessly to ensure that those standards are achieved," said nominator Tammy Eplion. "[She] prepares lessons that are engaging and productive. She knows each child's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and fears. In her classroom, students aren't afraid of failure because she has guaranteed them that only through their failures and challenges can they grow and learn. [...] Her students leave her classroom with confidence and with skills beyond their own expectations. I have been an educator for over 20 years and believe, beyond a doubt, that she is the master educator that all conscientious teachers strive to be." Ms. Wasson is awarded a $50 McAlister's gift card and a certificate as well as tea and cookies for her class. Thank you, Ms. Wasson, for all you have done for the students in your community. We received many amazing nominations, and we want to recognize them all. Here are the Teacher Appreciation nominees in Roanoke:
